Cardboard furniture
For my master thesis, I dived into the question: how can cardboard be perceived as high-end? I conducted my thesis, titled “Reimagining cardboard: from a low-end material to high-end furniture”, in collaboration with Kartent. The result combines a theoretical framework that connects factors such as quality, refinement, honesty, and craftsmanship, a design guidelines book for the designers at Kartent, and a series of example furniture pieces as a reference for future projects.

Ideation
To design cardboard furniture, ideation was done for, among other things, a bar table, bar stool, coffee table and a checkout desk. These pictures feature ideation on the coffee table and bar stool.
Conceptualisation
After the ideation, conceptualisation was done using quick SolidWorks models and physical scale models. The picture shows the conceptualisation for the bar tables.
Finalisation
For the finalisation, the bar stool, bar table were made to a 1:1 scale. The coffee table was made to a 1:2 scale.
